Orleans, Tours, Blois and Bourges are known for their medieval quarters with timber-framed buildings and narrow cobbled streets. Each of these fine centres has their own individual character, from Orleans and its ancient Joan of Arc connections to the lively city of Tours with its diverse, bustling University scene.

A departure from the historical context of the Loire, school groups can also enjoy a taste of things to come at the futuristic theme park Futuroscope. Just a few miles north of Poitiers, this popular day out is focused on the world of multimedia and cyberspace, with 3D IMAX cinemas and a host of modern audio-visual shows and interactive activities.
